Apple Prestige

Technical Profile of the Winter Apple Variety "Prestige"

Developed by a consortium of research centers, this variety represents a balanced solution for professional and enthusiast orcharding. The primary technical value of this cultivar lies in the synergy between high fruit marketability and extended shelf life.

Morphology and Growth Habits

The tree is categorized as medium-vigorous, which simplifies agrotechnical operations such as pruning, thinning, and harvesting. Its round canopy ensures optimal light penetration, which is critical for achieving the characteristic fruit weight of 200–250 grams. The elongated, round-conical shape of the fruit not only provides an attractive look but also contributes to minimal damage during transport and handling.

Phytopathology and Productivity

The genetic profile of the variety offers high resistance to apple scab (Venturia inaequalis), significantly reducing the need for fungicide applications during high-humidity periods. Furthermore, "Prestige" demonstrates effective immunity against powdery mildew. Given its medium winter hardiness, the variety performs best when planted in sites protected from harsh northern winds with well-drained soil profiles.

Post-Harvest Performance

The ability to store the fruit for 7–8 months is a key economic indicator for this variety. The cream-colored flesh maintains its texture and organoleptic properties throughout the entire storage period, making it a highly attractive option for commercial distribution during the winter and spring seasons.
