The President columnar apple tree is a dwarf tree up to 2 meters tall with a compact crown about 50 centimeters in diameter. This summer-autumn variety was bred in 1974 by crossing the Vozhak and Obilny varieties. The tree is distinguished by slow growth of side branches and strong foliage, which allows forming a crown of various shapes — columnar, bowl-shaped, pyramidal, or spherical. Thanks to the sturdy wood, the branches can withstand the weight of numerous fruits, while the root system of young saplings ensures good establishment and the possibility of transplantation.
The fruits of the President apple tree are large, weighing from 150 to 250 grams, with a characteristic shape resembling a turnip. The skin is thin, green with a blush and small dots, while the flesh is white, juicy, and aromatic. The taste of the fruits harmoniously combines sweetness with a slight acidity, making them pleasant both fresh and for use in compotes, drying, and pickling. The variety begins to bear fruit as early as the second year after planting, while stable fruiting lasts about 15 years, and the yield from one tree reaches 9 kg, reaching 13-15 kg under optimal conditions.
The President apple tree is distinguished by high frost resistance and good resistance to common diseases, making it a reliable choice for growing in various climatic conditions. Young trees require protection from freezing, but overall the variety is undemanding and suitable for growing both in open ground and in containers or vases. The high nutritional value of the fruits is confirmed by a rating of 4.8 points, which indicates their excellent taste qualities and benefits.
