MOSCOW RED

The 'Moscow Red' apple variety is a winter variety developed at Lomonosov Moscow State University by pollinating seeds from the hybrid Pepin Safranov × Korichne Polosatoye. The tree is characterized by restrained growth, is of medium height, with a compact and dense crown, and is well-leafed. Leaves are medium-sized and slightly crinkled. The variety is characterized by high resistance to scab and good winter hardiness, allowing the apple tree to withstand frost down to -35 degrees without freezing. Early fruiting makes it attractive to gardeners.

Fruits of the 'Moscow Red' variety are large, weighing from 100 to 190 grams, of round-conical shape without ribs. The main skin color at harvest maturity is greenish-yellow, which changes to golden-yellow during storage. Most of the fruit is covered with a blurred dark red blush. The apple flesh is yellowish, with a pleasant sour-sweet taste, which may vary depending on weather conditions. Subcutaneous dots are small and barely visible, the peduncle is of medium length, and the calyx basin has slight rusting.

Fruits of this variety are characterized by a long storage period; under normal conditions in a cellar, they retain their qualities until May. This makes 'Moscow Red' an excellent choice for those who value the possibility of long-term use of the harvest.
