The Magistra apple is one of the best clones of the Gala variety, bred in New Zealand and successfully cultivated in Ukraine since the mid-1970s. This autumn variety is characterized by large fruits — the average weight is 160-180 grams. The fruits feature a bright red-carmine blush covering almost the entire surface, with yellow-cream flesh that is dense and juicy with a light aroma and sweet-tart flavor. The trees establish quickly, grow intensively, and begin fruiting by the 2nd or 3rd year after planting, reaching heights up to 3.5 meters. The variety shows medium resistance to frost, scab, powdery mildew, and bacterial fire blight, blooms in late-mid terms, and reaches harvest maturity in the second half of September. The fruits store well in the refrigerator for 5-6 months. Magistra is grafted on semi-dwarfing rootstock 54-1, which ensures ease of cultivation and care.
Furthermore, the wood of the Magistra apple, from which pellets and chips for smoking are made, possesses a delicate sweet aroma with notes of baked apple and caramel. Such wood is ideal for preparing dishes of poultry, pork, vegetables, as well as for baking and pizza. Natural apple chips contain no chemicals or impurities, smolder quickly, and produce a rich aromatic smoke that wonderfully complements the taste of meat, fish, cheese, and desserts.
The packaging of the chips is a stylish hermetic metal canister with a volume of 240 ml, which ensures ease of storage and use and makes it an excellent gift. This product is suitable for use with smoking lids, guns, and cold smoke systems, allowing to reveal new taste nuances in cooking and bar culture.
