Golden Orange is a winter apple variety of Italian selection, characterized by medium tree height and a spreading canopy. The fruits have a correct symmetrical truncated-conical shape with a bright yellow calyx color and a uniform red coloration on the sunny side. The apple flesh is firm, crunchy, juicy, sweet, and aromatic with a pleasant hint of acidity, making its taste particularly appealing. The medium growth rate and high yield allow for obtaining a stable and early harvest.
The variety is distinguished by its resistance to frequent diseases, including scab due to the VF gene, as well as low susceptibility to powdery mildew and pink apple aphid. Golden Orange has a low tendency to alternate yield, which facilitates care and thinning of fruits. Fruiting begins early and is highly productive, while the fruits ripen in the middle of the season, approximately four days after the Golden Delicious variety.
The apple tree requires proper care, including thinning of fruit set, pruning, regular watering, and protection from pests and rodents. The fruits are well suited for organic gardening, especially in southern regions. Storage of apples is possible until December in refrigerated conditions and until February in controlled atmosphere, which allows to preserve their freshness and taste qualities for a long time.
