Apple BRINA

Practical Guide to Cultivating 'Brina' Apple

For growers looking to balance yields with reduced chemical input, the 'Brina' variety by 'Ao Sad-gigant' is a solid investment. The medium-growth trees are manageable, requiring minimal effort for pruning and canopy maintenance, which is a significant time-saver during the busy season.

Disease Resistance and Orchard Health

The primary advantage of 'Brina' is its genetic resistance to apple scab (Venturia inaequalis). In day-to-day orchard operations, this translates into a lower volume of fungicide applications compared to traditional varieties. Even when weather conditions favor fungal growth, the foliage remains healthy. Furthermore, its resistance to powdery mildew makes it a reliable choice for areas with fluctuating humidity levels.

Winter Hardiness and Management

Developed by 'Ao Sad-gigant', this variety shows robust winter hardiness. The trees endure low temperatures without sustaining significant wood damage and emerge from dormancy uniformly. The variety responds well to standard fertilization programs and does not require complex technical interventions to produce a consistent crop.

Fruit Quality and Commercial Value

The fruit features a classic globose-conical shape, making it efficient for sizing and packing. The yellow base color combined with a soft, diffused red blush gives the apple an excellent market appearance. From an operational standpoint, the fruit handles transport well and possesses good storage life, catering to both local markets and longer supply chains.

• Growth: Medium vigor, easy to prune and maintain.
• Protection: Lower fungicide requirements due to natural scab immunity.
• Adaptability: Excellent winter hardiness for moderate climates.
• Output: High-quality fruit with excellent shelf life.
