The cultivation of this species requires a specific soil profile characterized by excellent drainage. It performs best in rocky, alkaline, or neutral soils. Gardeners must avoid heavy, water-logged soils, as poor aeration and moisture retention are the primary enemies of the root system.

In terms of climate, it prefers mild winters typical of its native habitat. While it can tolerate some temperature drops, it is generally not considered fully frost-hardy in colder zones, making it an excellent candidate for container gardening in temperate climates.
