What the section contains
Rupicapnos
The name of the genus is derived from the Latin terms rupes, meaning rock, and kapnos, meaning smoke, reflecting the plant's characteristic adaptation to growing in crevices of limestone cliffs.
These plants are highly specialized to thrive in calcium-rich substrates, exhibiting unique physiological mechanisms that allow them to extract nutrients from extremely poor and stony soil profiles.
The morphology of Rupicapnos features delicate, dissected foliage and racemose inflorescences consisting of tubular flowers, which are typical for the Fumarioideae subfamily.
Due to its specific ecological niche and the difficulty of reproducing its natural habitat, Rupicapnos is currently not recognized as a cultivated agricultural crop, serving primarily as a subject of botanical and conservation study.
