The spring barley variety 'AUTHORITY' is a medium-maturing brewing barley with a vegetation period of 73 to 87 days. It was bred based on the Scarlet x Viscosa hybrid and recommended for cultivation in the Central Black Earth region, specifically in the Oryol region. The plant is characterized by an intermediate bush type with semi-prostrate growth, short mid-stem length, and a medium-density cylindrical head. The head is equipped with long awned awns with pronounced anthocyanin coloring, while the grain ranges from large to very large, with a 1000-grain mass of 39-48 grams.

Variety 'AUTHORITY' is distinguished by its resistance to lodging, ensuring crop preservation under adverse weather conditions. However, it is moderately susceptible to net and powdery bunt and highly susceptible to helminthosporium. In terms of drought resistance, the variety slightly lags behind standard varieties, dropping by 0.5-1 points. Average yield in the region is approximately 35.1 centners per hectare, while in the Oryol region, the variety showed a gain over the standard ATAMAN of 3.7 centners, reaching yields up to 44.3 centners per hectare, with a maximum yield of 70.8 centners in 2009.

The main advantage of variety 'AUTHORITY' lies in its application for brewing production. Protein content in the grain is at the level of 11-11.5%, which, combined with high germination energy in the first 2-3 days and low beta-glucan content, makes this variety particularly valuable for producing quality beer. External signs of the variety, such as medium intensity of anthocyanin coloring of flag leaf auricles and waxy coating on the sheath, as well as head and grain structure features, allow easy identification of this variety among other barleys.
