Description

Kamyshinsky 23 is a mid-ripening spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety with a vegetative period ranging from 68 to 84 days, primarily intended for grain-forage use. It is characterized by medium bush height and an intermediate growth type, with a medium-length and density spike, long weakly spreading awns, and an elliptical grain of medium size. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 35 to 55 grams depending on the growing region. The variety is distinguished by high drought and heat resistance, ensuring stable yields even with insufficient soil moisture.

Kamyshinsky 23 demonstrates high adaptability and plasticity to various climatic conditions, successfully cultivated in the Central Black Earth, Lower Volga, North Caucasus, West Siberia, and East Siberia regions. In these areas, the average yield reaches from 17.7 to 25.9 centners per hectare, while in the Southern Urals, the variety forms a yield 15.6% higher than the standard. Besides forage use, the variety can be used for brewing purposes, which expands its application areas.

In terms of resistance, Kamyshinsky 23 has medium resistance to lodging and loose smut, moderate resistance to powdery smut, but is susceptible to dark brown spot, helminthosporiosis, and root rots. Seed treatment is recommended to protect the sowing material. The protein content in the grain ranges from 13.5% to 16.5%, confirming its value as a forage component.
