Description Signal
SIGNAL is a medium-early spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety intended mainly for brewing. The variety's vegetative period ranges from 66 to 87 days, ensuring relatively rapid growth and maturation. The plants are tall with semi-erect culms and cylindrical, moderately dense heads. The grain weighs between 39-54 grams per 1000 grains, featuring an unawned groove and an enveloping lodicule. Average yield in growing regions reaches 32 centners per hectare, with a maximum of 64.6 centners. The variety is resistant to diseases such as powdery, hard, and black loose smut, but is susceptible to helminthosporium leaf spots and root rots.

Spring barley SIGNAL is distinguished by high profitability and is suitable for cultivation in various soil and climate conditions. Due to its short vegetative period and moderate resource requirements, this variety allows farmers to obtain stable and high yields with optimal use of fertilizers and modern agro-technologies. Sowing is recommended at soil moisture of about 20–30% of water-consumptive volume, with an optimal seed germination temperature of 10–15°C, maintaining 15–20°C during active vegetation.

To increase productivity and resilience of barley SIGNAL, modern farming methods are applied, including precision agriculture with GPS trackers and soil sensors, as well as variable rate technology (VRT) for fertilizer application. These approaches allow optimizing plant nutrition and preserving soil moisture, which is particularly important for a moderately drought-resistant variety. SIGNAL belongs to two-row barley varieties widely used in brewing due to high enzyme and maltose content, making it valuable for producing quality malt.
