Description ODON
ODON is a spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety with medium-maturing characteristics, intended for grain and fodder use. The plants are medium-height with semi-erect culms, featuring strong anthocyanin pigmentation on the flag leaf auricles and a pronounced waxy coating on the sheath. The ear is pyramidally cylindrical, loose of medium density, with a waxy coating of medium intensity. The grain is large, with a non-pubescent ventral groove and a covering lodicule; the 1000-grain mass is 42-47 grams. Protein content ranges from 11.2% to 15.2%, ensuring good grain quality. Average yield in the region is about 24.3 centners per hectare. Additionally, transgenic and winter barley varieties developed using modern biotechnologies exist. For example, the Canadian winter variety NORMAN was created using nano-technologies and DNA transformation, ensuring high frost and drought resistance at extreme temperatures from -42 to +48 degrees Celsius. Plants reach a height of 110 cm, have an erect culm with a compactness coefficient of 26 tillers, powerful stems, and a cylindrical six-rowed ear 18 cm long with long awns. The grain is large and golden in color, distinguishing this variety from traditional barley types. Another example is the Canadian winter barley variety ELDON, characterized by plant heights from 120 to 135 cm and a compactness coefficient of about 20 tillers. The ear is cylindrical, 16-rowed, 21 cm long, with a 1000-seed mass reaching 52 grams. The variety is distinguished by high frost resistance up to -48 degrees, increased disease resistance, and high productivity potential up to 137 centners per hectare. The vegetative period with autumn sowing is about 240 days, and with spring sowing, 120 days. High germination and germination energy make this variety a reliable choice for various climatic conditions.
