Description MIKHAILOVSKIY
Mikhailovskiy — a mid-season variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) with high brewing qualities and value for malt production. This variety is characterized by medium drought and lodging resistance, which allows it to be successfully grown in various climatic conditions, particularly in the Northwestern and Ural regions. Yield of the variety in these zones averages 34.2 c/ha, with maximum indicators reaching up to 73.4 c/ha. To protect against diseases such as loose smut, stem rust, striped and net blotch, as well as powdery smut and dark brown leaf spot, seed treatment and fungicidal treatments according to plant protection service recommendations are recommended.

Barley Mikhailovskiy, like other barley varieties, is an important agricultural crop widely used in food, technical, and feed sectors. It contains a high percentage of starch and protein, making it a valuable nutritional feed and raw material for the production of coffee substitutes and pharmaceutical preparations. Growing barley requires taking into account climatic conditions, as the crop is sensitive to cold, excess moisture, and lack of oxygen, as well as to heat, which can negatively affect grain quality and its morphological characteristics.

Studies show that optimal nitrogen nutrition significantly affects yield and brewing properties of the Mikhailovskiy variety. Application of nitrogen in doses of 30-60 kg/ha promotes an increase in yield by 11-70% and improves grain and malt quality. However, at higher doses of nitrogen (90-120 kg/ha), protein content increases, which prolongs the mashing process of malt. Under conditions of moisture deficit at the beginning of the vegetative period, yield decreases and brewing qualities deteriorate, which underscores the importance of a correct agro-technical approach when growing this variety.
