Barley CAZAK

Versatility in Every Ear

The «Kazak» barley variety, developed by the Samara Research Center of the RAS, defies conventional wisdom regarding cereal crop specialization. Its key feature is its plasticity: the variety is uniquely adapted for both spring and winter planting. In climates characterized by unpredictable weather, this dual-purpose capability allows farmers to optimize planting areas based on soil moisture levels and seasonal timing.

Agronomic Profile and Disease Resistance

Originators V.V. Glukhovtsev and S.Y. Tsarevsky focused on comprehensive phytosanitary protection. The variety demonstrates high resistance to major pathogens that typically jeopardize yields in high-moisture regions:

• Powdery mildew: the plant effectively suppresses fungal growth during early developmental stages.
• Rust: genetically inherent resistance to rust species helps reduce expenditures on fungicide treatments.
• Stem smut: high immunity minimizes yield loss risks both in the field and during storage.

Morphological Features and Farmer’s Choice

«Kazak» exhibits variability in row numbers (featuring both two-row and six-row configurations), which provides flexibility in managing seeding rates and thousand-grain weight. Who is this variety for? Primarily for growers practicing intensive farming in regions where harvest stability is critical amid shifting weather patterns. The main strength of «Kazak» is its resilience. Its weakness, however, lies in its reliance on precise agronomic management; failure to maintain optimal field conditions may hinder the plant's ability to reach its full ear-bearing potential due to intra-crop competition.
