LUNY

LUNY is a medium-early variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), distinguished by its high grain quality. It is characterized by a 1000-kernel mass ranging from 45 to 52 grams and a protein content between 12.9% and 15.1%. The variety exhibits drought resistance at or above the level of standard varieties, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in the Middle Volga region. However, LUNY is susceptible to certain diseases, such as powdery scab and helminthosporiosis. The specific agronomic techniques for the LUNY variety play a crucial role in shaping grain quality and its intended uses. In crop rotations involving cover crop stubble and winter wheat for producing high-quality feed barley, it is recommended to incorporate cover crops and apply mineral fertilizers. This approach enhances the nutritional value and yield of barley. For producing grain suitable for brewing, agronomic techniques differ slightly: cover crops should be incorporated via discing, and mineral fertilizers should not be used. This method allows obtaining grain with the necessary quality characteristics for the brewing industry.
