Radogost

The apple variety Radogost was developed in 1971 at the Institute of Horticulture of UAAN (Kyiv) by crossing Jonathan and Grinslives varieties. This variety is intended for cultivation in the Polissia and Forest-Steppe regions. The tree is medium-sized with a wide, rounded, moderately dense crown, bearing fruit on spurs, lateral branches, and fruiting spurs. Flowering occurs at medium timing and is characterized by intensity. The variety has high cold resistance, allowing successful cultivation in cold climates, although resistance to scab and powdery mildew is rated as moderate.

The fruits of the Radogost variety have medium to above-average size, weighing from 125 to 175 grams. The apples are yellow with a dull red blush, the flesh is light cream-colored, dense, juicy, and aromatic. The taste is harmonious, slightly tart-sweet, making the fruits attractive for both fresh consumption and juice production. Harvesting for picking occurs at the end of September, while consumer ripeness lasts until January–February; with proper storage, fruits can be kept until March.

The variety is recommended for fresh consumption and processing. For better pollination and increased yield, it is advised to plant it alongside varieties such as Aidared, Askolda, Rubinovoe Duky, and Spartan. Due to its characteristics and adaptability to climatic conditions, the apple tree Radogost is a reliable choice for gardeners aiming to obtain high-quality, tasty fruits in moderate latitudes.
