Apple Red Delicious

The Red Delicious apple tree is one of the most well-known and popular varieties developed in the USA and introduced to the market since 1914. Trees of this variety are medium-sized with round, moderately dense, and compact crowns. Shoots are strong, straight, and thick. The variety is characterized by high yield and good transportability, making it popular for commercial cultivation. For optimal growth, it is recommended to grow this apple on dwarf or medium-sized rootstocks, and to provide regular care, including soil loosening, watering, fertilization, and pruning. The fruits of the Red Delicious apple are large, single, with a conical, slightly truncated shape and five convex bumps at the top. The skin is thin but dense, with a dense waxy coating, colored greenish-yellow, and 95% covered with a bright, deep red blush. The flesh is light cream-colored, firm, moderately juicy, aromatic, and sweet in taste, confirmed by a high taste rating of 4.8 out of 5 points. The apples have a smooth skin with a glossy appearance and a vibrant red color, giving them an attractive appearance. The variety is late-winter maturing, with harvest occurring in mid to late October. The fruits can be stored for more than six months, allowing for prolonged use after harvest. The apple tree is resistant to diseases and pests, but has weak winter hardiness, thus requiring certain protective measures during cold seasons. To achieve high yields and maintain fruit quality, regular care and fertilization are necessary, which positively affects tree development and fruiting.
