VOLNODONSKAYA is a soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety characterized by mid-early maturity and medium height. This variety exhibits high resistance to lodging, ensuring yield stability even under adverse weather conditions. Its winter hardiness is above average, and drought tolerance is at the standard level, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including the Rostov Region and the North Caucasus region. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 34 to 45 grams, indicating good grain quality. Yield in the region reaches 52.0 c/ha, while in competitive trials it reached up to 7.44 t/ha.
The VOLNODONSKAYA variety was created through intervarietal hybridization using the donor forms Donskoy Surprise and Rostovchanka 5, which improved its adaptive and economic traits. It possesses excellent baking properties, making it in demand for the production of bakery products. Additionally, the variety demonstrates moderate resistance to brown rust and high resistance to lodging, brown and yellow rust, as well as powdery bunt. However, it is susceptible to powdery mildew and solid bunt, which requires attention in agronomic measures.
It is recommended for sowing on various crop backgrounds—high, medium, and low—with a seeding rate of 4.5-5.5 million germinable seeds per hectare. Due to its qualities and adaptability, the VOLNODONSKAYA variety is a reliable choice for agricultural producers aiming to obtain high-quality yields of soft winter wheat.
