Wheat ZU Shamal

German genetics for consistent grain production

The winter wheat variety "ZU Shamal" from the renowned breeder Nordsaat Saatzucht is designed for intensive farming operations. In an era where crop diseases are becoming increasingly difficult to control, this variety offers a robust defense system that is highly valued by agronomists aiming for high yields under professional management.

Key strengths: disease resistance and performance

The primary advantage of "ZU Shamal" is its significant resistance profile against a wide range of fungal pathogens. It displays excellent tolerance to leaf diseases, including brown and yellow rust, as well as septoria, fusarium, and various rots. This naturally reduces the pressure on chemical disease management, allowing for more strategic fungicide application.

• Yield potential: Reaches 7–8 tons per hectare, positioning it as a top-tier choice for high-input agricultural environments.
• Disease defense: Strong genetic resistance to yellow rust, brown rust, and septoria reduces crop stress.

Agronomic management considerations

To fully capitalize on "ZU Shamal’s" potential, growers must pay close attention to structural management. Because the variety has low resistance to lodging, the use of plant growth regulators is highly recommended. Failure to control stem height, especially in high-nitrogen scenarios or high-moisture seasons, can jeopardize harvest results. This variety is best suited for farms equipped to manage growth stages precisely and maintain balanced plant nutrition, ensuring that the heavy heads are supported throughout the maturation period.
