Omskaya 38 is a soft spring wheat variety developed by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Siberian Research Institute of Agriculture". This medium-maturing variety has a vegetative period of 76 to 99 days and belongs to the Lutescens type. The plant is tall with a semi-erect bush, featuring strong, medium-thickness straw of light-yellow color. The ear is cylindrical, white, awnless, and glabrous; the grain is semi-elongated, red, with a narrow, shallow groove. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 31.6 to 43 grams depending on the growing region. Protein content reaches 15.6–16.3%, gluten content 29.2–36.6%, providing excellent milling and baking qualities, including a loaf volume of up to 1300 ml and a high overall baking score.
Omskaya 38 is distinguished by high and stable yields, reaching from 12.2 to 32.6 c/ha in various regions. It is resistant to lodging and shattering, which contributes to yield preservation and quality improvement. The variety shows moderate drought resistance and possesses increased general resistance to adverse abiotic environmental factors. Due to these characteristics, Omskaya 38 is recommended for cultivation in the Omsk Region, as well as in the East Kazakhstan, Akimola, and North Kazakhstan regions.
Regarding diseases, the variety has moderate resistance to brown rust and high resistance to lodging. However, it is susceptible to powdery mildew, septoria, root rots, and hardened heads, and is strongly susceptible to dusty bunt. Despite this, the variety shows a low level of disease and pest damage during trials. Omskaya 38 is a strong wheat with excellent baking qualities, making it in demand for the production of quality flour and bakery products.
