Uralskaya Kukushka is a variety of soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) with a predominantly medium-early maturity period, ranging from 76 to 90 days. The plant is characterized by medium height and a semi-erect bush, with a pyramid-shaped head 5–8 cm long of medium density and white color. The grain is colored, with a 1000-grain mass ranging from 26 to 34 grams. The variety belongs to the erythrospermum type and is distinguished by its resistance to grain shedding, which facilitates harvesting and reduces yield losses. The vegetative period of the variety is slightly shorter compared to the variety Chelyaba 2, maturing 1-2 days earlier.
Uralskaya Kukushka demonstrates good drought resistance, comparable to the variety Chelyaba 2, making it suitable for cultivation in the Urals region, including the Chelyabinsk region. The average yield in this region is about 14.9 centners per hectare, while in other regions such as the Kurgan and Omsk regions, the variety shows high productivity with yields up to 28.0 ct/ha and 23.5 ct/ha, respectively. The baking qualities of the variety are assessed as satisfactory to good, with protein content in the grain at 16–18% and gluten at 31–33%, ensuring acceptable flour quality for baking.
The variety has moderate resistance to brown rust, however it is susceptible to certain diseases such as septoria, root rots, powdery mildew, as well as dusty and hard smut. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptation to the climatic conditions of the region, Uralskaya Kukushka is a promising choice for farmers seeking to obtain a stable and high-quality wheat yield in arid climate conditions.
