GONETS

Gonets is a soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety of the intensive type, developed at the Altai Breeding Center. It belongs to the lutescence group and is characterized by a medium-late maturity period with a vegetation period of 81-93 days. The plant is low-growing with sturdy straw 60-75 cm tall, ensuring high resistance to lodging. The ear is cylindrical, large, and dense, 7.5-8 cm long, with 24 spikelets per 10 cm of rachis and awn-like appendages at the top. Leaf blades have medium pubescence and a waxy coating, while the grain is red, large, and high-yielding, with a mass of 1000 grains ranging from 35 to 48 g.

The Gonets variety is distinguished by high resistance to major wheat diseases, including powdery bunt, brown rust, and powdery mildew, as well as moderate resistance to solid bunt and slight susceptibility to stem rust. Thanks to these qualities and sturdy straw, it reliably maintains yield even under unfavorable conditions. In terms of drought resistance, Gonets is at the level or slightly above the Predgornaya variety, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions, including the Altai and Krasnoyarsk Krai, Kemerovo and Amur regions.

Based on variety testing results, Gonets demonstrates high productivity, exceeding standard varieties by 33.5% in yield. The maximum yield achieved under production conditions was 8.92 t/ha, which is significantly higher than the indicators of the Altayskaya 75 variety. The variety forms grain with a high gluten content (on average 28.3%), which is a valuable quality for the baking industry. Gonets is recommended for agricultural cultivation as a reliable and high-yielding soft spring wheat variety.
