Wheat FUEGO

Stable Performance in Durum Wheat: Why Choose 'Fuego'

In the durum wheat (Triticum durum) segment, producers often struggle with the trade-off between maximizing yield and ensuring reliable crop development. The winter wheat variety 'Fuego' from the Swiss-based Syngenta offers a balance that minimizes the risks associated with this high-demand crop. Unlike many softer varieties that require near-perfect conditions, this variety shows impressive lodging resistance, which is critical in regions where summer rainfall can threaten harvest quality.

Agronomic Profile and Efficiency

The key performance metric that sets 'Fuego' apart from its peers is its productive tiller density. Under optimal sowing conditions, the variety achieves 5.0–5.5 million productive stems per hectare. This density ensures efficient solar energy interception and provides a competitive edge against weeds during early growth stages, indirectly reducing the need for intensive herbicide interventions.

• Growth Type: Winter wheat.
• Specialization: Durum wheat, optimized for high-quality pasta production.
• Technology: High stem lodging resistance, simplifying harvest and protecting grain quality during rainy seasons.

This variety is an optimal choice for farms focusing on high-protein grain production. It offers a degree of flexibility in agronomic management, which is often a critical factor for less robust durum varieties. If your strategy is to achieve a consistent harvest without the risks associated with crop lodging, 'Fuego' provides a highly effective solution backed by Syngenta's breeding expertise.
