BASIL 2

BASIL 2 is a variety of soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) developed by FGBNU «NIISKh ChCP». It is characterized by a medium-early maturity period and a medium-height plant type, with a height ranging from 76 to 104 cm. The vegetative period varies from 218 to 326 days depending on the growing region. The variety is distinguished by high resistance to lodging, above-average winter hardiness, and good drought tolerance, which allows for successful cultivation in various climatic conditions, including the Central Black Earth and Middle Volga regions, as well as the North-East and East zones of the Stavropol Krai and the Republic of Tatarstan. BASIL 2 boasts high yield potential—the maximum recorded yield reaches 7.3 t/ha, while potential yields can exceed 10 t/ha. The variety is adapted for cultivation on both intensive and semi-intensive predecessors, providing satisfactory results even on low agro-fonds. It is versatile in application, suitable for cultivation with and without fertilizer application; when using fertilizers, it is recommended to apply retardants to optimize plant growth and development. In terms of disease resistance, the variety demonstrates moderate resistance to common bunt and septoria, moderate susceptibility to powdery mildew, and high susceptibility to brown rust. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 35 to 46 grams, indicating good grain quality. The main advantages of the variety include high yield, resistance to abiotic stresses, as well as excellent milling and bread-making qualities, making BASIL 2 an attractive choice for food wheat production.
