Watermelon Temp

Technical Profile of the 'Temp' Watermelon Variety

Developed by the Federal Research Center for Vegetable Growing, 'Temp' is a high-performance early-maturing variety designed for producers targeting the early market segment. The biological rhythm of this variety allows for technical maturity within a tight 60-70 day window post-emergence. This makes it an efficient solution for conveyor production in temperate climatic zones.

Product Specifications and Market Value

• Fruit Metrics: The fruit weight typically ranges from 3.0 to 5.0 kg. This sizing category is highly prized in modern retail as 'individual-sized' watermelons, offering superior logistics, lower handling costs, and higher turnover rates.
• Breeding Integrity: The variety's genetic stability is supported by the expertise of Nina Genrihovna Bajbakova and Elena Aleksandrovna Varivoda from the Vegetable Research Station, ensuring consistent performance across generations.

Technically, the 'Temp' variety is engineered for rapid nutrient accumulation during its short vegetation period. By shortening the fruit-filling phase, the variety allows growers to harvest ahead of the peak pathogen cycles that often plague mid-to-late season crops. The high uniformity in size and weight simplifies post-harvest grading, reducing labor costs and waste during packaging, which directly correlates to higher profitability for commercial growers.
