Morgan F1 watermelon is a mid-early hybrid of the Crimson Sweet type, developed by the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan. From transplanting seedlings to the start of fruiting, it takes approximately 65-72 days. The plant is long-vined, sturdy, and heavily leafed, with a strong root system and dense foliage, providing high resistance to drought and intense sunlight. The hybrid is resistant to major diseases of melon crops, which contributes to stable yields under various climatic conditions.
The fruits of Morgan watermelon have an elongated-oval shape, evenly ribbed and striped, with a shiny dark green rind and thin green stripes. The average weight of the fruits varies from 7-9 kg to 12-18 kg depending on growing conditions. The flesh is a rich ruby color, crisp, juicy, and uniform, with high sugar content at 13.5-14% on the Brix scale. When fully ripe, the watermelon develops a rich sweet flavor and intense watermelon aroma.
The thick, dense rind ensures excellent transportability of the fruits, allowing for long-distance transportation without loss of quality. The flavor and sweetness are retained during storage, enabling the sale of watermelons both during the main season and after its conclusion. The hybrid is intended for open-field cultivation, with a recommended planting density of 6-7 thousand plants per hectare using drip irrigation. Morgan F1 is suitable for fresh market, pickling, and processing into juices, making it a versatile and popular variety.
