Genetic potential and adaptability of the Tribeka hybrid

The Tribeka pineapple-type melon from the Dutch company Ikasido Global Group B.V is a breeding product focused on stable yields under intensive farming conditions. The key feature of this hybrid is the combination of a short vegetation cycle (65–70 days) with high resistance to pathogens, which is critical for crop protection in areas at risk of soil-borne infections.

Biological protection and fruit morphology

The breeding program led by Igor Shevchenko is aimed at eliminating the weak points typical of early-maturing melons. Resistance to Fusarium wilt is achieved through the plant's active immune response to Fusarium fungi. Combined with tolerance to powdery mildew, this allows for minimizing fungicide application during the ripening period.

• Technical maturity phase: the surface of the fruit acquires a light yellow hue, which serves as an indicator of readiness for harvest.
• Marketable appearance: the ripe fruit is characterized by a rich orange-yellow skin and a well-defined flesh structure.
• Calibration: fruit weight ranges from 1.0 to 2.0 kg, an optimal standard for the fresh produce segment.
• Gastronomic properties: the intense orange flesh color indicates a high level of sugar and carotenoid accumulation typical of the pineapple type.

Technologically, Tribeka is engineered to ensure crop uniformity, which simplifies logistics and storage. The high ripening rate allows for efficient conveyor harvesting, reducing the risks of losses due to over-ripening or adverse weather conditions in the second half of the summer.
