Watermelon DUET

Technical Profile of the 'Duet' Hybrid

The 'Duet' watermelon is a product of the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production. Based on the Crimson Sweet genetics, this hybrid is designed to meet the demands of both commercial scale operations and professional farms. Its technological value lies in the precise balance between its growth cycle and the high quality of the final produce.

Key Agronomic Indicators

• Maturity cycle: This mid-early hybrid reaches technical maturity within 65–70 days post-germination, making it an excellent choice for regions with limited growing seasons.
• Fruit morphology: The rounded shape ensures optimal logistics and handling. A weight range of 5–7 kg aligns with current retail demand, as these sizes are highly convenient for the end-user.
• Internal characteristics: The flesh is deep red with a crisp, sugary texture inherent to the high-standard Crimson Sweet line.

Practical Application for Growers

Adopting 'Duet' is advantageous for intensive farming systems. The hybrid’s genetics facilitate the production of uniform fruits, which significantly reduces sorting losses at the post-harvest stage. The plant demonstrates high vigor, quickly developing a dense canopy that provides natural shading for the fruits, protecting them from heat stress and sunscald—a critical factor for maintaining a high-quality rind.

For the agronomist, managing this hybrid requires standard fertilization protocols consistent with the Crimson Sweet type. To reach the optimal 5–7 kg weight, consistent moisture levels must be maintained during the fruit-fill stage to prevent cracking and ensure firm, high-quality flesh. This hybrid represents a reliable solution for producers seeking consistent results and predictable harvest quality.
