Watermelon Sorento F1 — an ultra-early hybrid of the Crimson Sweet type, developed by the Dutch company Syngenta Seeds. This variety is distinguished by its early maturity: the first fruits appear as early as 54-57 days after transplanting seedlings, and the full vegetative period lasts about 72 days. Medium-statured plants with a well-developed root system and abundant vegetative mass, which provides reliable protection for fruits from sunburn and promotes effective nutrient uptake from the soil. Sorento F1 easily adapts to various growing conditions, including open fields and greenhouses, while requiring light, well-aerated soils and does not tolerate heavy clay soils with water stagnation.
The fruits of watermelon Sorento F1 have an average weight of 7-8 kg, round-oval shape, and a distinct striped coloration with a dominant dark green hue. The skin is tough, up to 12 mm thick, ensuring good transportability over long distances. The flesh is dark red, fiber-free and seedless, containing a small amount of tiny seeds. It has an intensely sweet flavor with a refreshing aroma and a subtle honey-sweet aftertaste, making each bite literally melt in the mouth.
The hybrid Sorento F1 is characterized by stable fruit set, forming 2-3 fruits per plant, and high resistance to diseases such as anthracnose and fusarium. The harvest ripens en masse, the fruits do not crack and have excellent field storage quality. Due to its qualities, this watermelon is ideal for fresh market sales during the main season, as well as for canning, processing, and pickling.
