Watermelon Coralzinho

Technological potential of the Koralzinyu hybrid

The Rijk Zwaan selection efforts in the Crimson Sweet segment have resulted in a hybrid where the balance between vegetative mass and generative load is calibrated with precision. Koralzinyu is aimed at professional growers who prioritize yield predictability under intensive cultivation.

Fruit architecture and market quality

• Maturity timeline: Ultra-early segment (60–65 days after transplanting). This allows growers to enter the market ahead of competitors, effectively bypassing peak price volatility.
• Geometry and caliber: The stable round shape minimizes losses during packing and logistics. The 8–10 kg weight range is considered the “gold standard” for both retail chains and wholesale markets.
• Internal structure: The deep red flesh possesses high density, which prevents cracking during long-distance transport. A high Brix index ensures the premium taste profile necessary for building consumer loyalty.

A key Rijk Zwaan advantage here is the genetically encoded stress resistance. The plant maintains fruit-filling rates even under the sharp temperature fluctuations typical of the early season. In field practice, this translates to an absence of internal hollows and a uniform distribution of sugars from the center to the periphery. Choosing this hybrid is a strategic bet on logistics efficiency: the fruits are uniform, predictable in weight, and maintain marketability for up to 2 weeks post-harvest.
