Common walnut Getman

Breeding Heritage for Commercial Walnut Production

The 'Hetman' walnut variety is a significant achievement of the Institute of Horticulture of the NAAS, representing the excellence of Ukrainian breeding. This variety is designed for professional growers seeking a balance between high yields and market-driven quality. In the changing climatic conditions of Ukraine, 'Hetman' has proven itself as a reliable, time-tested choice for establishing productive commercial orchards.

Key Advantages of the Variety

• Disease Resistance: One of the standout features of 'Hetman' is its significant resistance to brown leaf spot (Marssonina juglandis). This trait allows farmers to reduce the frequency of fungicide treatments, directly contributing to cost savings and sustainable production practices.
• Kernel Quality: Market appeal is the primary requirement for modern walnut production. 'Hetman' is distinguished by its light-colored kernel, which is highly prized in both processing and export markets. This consistent color consistency is a key indicator of high-quality raw material.
• Adaptability: The Ukrainian breeding process focuses on the specific soil and climatic conditions of the region, making this variety predictable in terms of orchard management and tree architecture.

The reputation of the 'Hetman' variety is built on consistency: it provides reliable yields and a high output of marketable nuts. It does not require niche or complex conditions outside of standard agricultural practices. This makes 'Hetman' an excellent choice both for expanding existing plantations and for those new to the nut industry looking for a variety with a proven and reliable profile.
