Hazelnut Hickory

A Practical Choice for Intensive Hazelnut Orchards

The Ukrainian hazelnut variety "VUT" is a solution for farms focused on commercial grading and stable yields in regional climate conditions. The key feature of this variety is its high adaptability: it does not require specific environmental conditions, making it an optimal choice for establishing industrial plantations with mechanized harvesting.

Agrotechnical Features and Application

When selecting this variety, the primary focus is on the nut's geometry. The combination of elongated and rounded fruit shapes allows for the efficient use of primary processing lines — such nuts are easier to grade and are less prone to damage in mechanical hullers (nutcrackers). A nut weight ranging from 4.0 to 4.5 grams is the industry standard for confectionery manufacturers, which simplifies wholesale sales.

• For Farmers: The variety demonstrates predictable growth, allowing for precise planning of planting schemes and load management during canopy formation.
• For Processors: Consistent kernel weight and excellent fill density minimize waste percentages during processing.
• For Logistics: A durable shell ensures good storage life during long-distance transportation without loss of commercial appearance.

Establishing an orchard based on "VUT" is justified in regions with moderate rainfall. The variety responds well to drip irrigation, which, combined with high-quality mineral nutrition, helps push the fruit weight toward the upper end of the range. Given its genetic adaptation to Ukrainian conditions, "VUT" exhibits a high level of winter hardiness, which is critical for farms in the central and northern regions.
