Skinsky

Skinsky walnut is a large-fruited and especially oily variety with dense kernels that easily separate from the shell as whole units. Fruits weighing 13–14 grams have a matte, smooth shell of medium thickness, while the 5–6 gram kernel occupies up to 50% of the fruit and features a cream-yellow skin. This variety contains up to 70% oil in its kernels, making it especially valuable for oil production and consumption.

Skinsky trees are medium-sized with oval, slightly spreading crowns of medium size. They exhibit high winter hardiness and good disease resistance, which is particularly important for cultivation in Ukraine’s climate. Flowering begins in early May or later, helping to avoid frost damage. In case of excessive summer rainfall, minor brown spot disease may occur, but this does not significantly affect yield.

The variety was developed by Moldovan breeders and propagated using improved grafting methods, ensuring high-quality seedlings and stable fruiting. Harvest occurs in September, allowing for the collection of ripe, high-quality nuts for further use. Due to its excellent taste, high oil content, and resistance to adverse conditions, Skinsky walnut is a popular choice among gardeners and producers.
