Golden Ball

Golden Ball turnip is a medium-early table variety with a period from germination to harvest of 70-80 days. The root crops are round in shape, yellow in color, weighing from 70 to 190 grams, with a thin, smooth and tender skin. The flesh is dense, very juicy and tasty, which makes this variety one of the most popular for fresh consumption during the autumn-winter period. The variety is characterized by stable yield, uniformity of root crops and high vitamin value, including carotene and minerals, which makes it a valuable dietary product.

For growing Golden Ball, it is recommended to sow seeds in early May at a soil temperature of about +10 °C. The soil should be well moistened and slightly alkaline, with the addition of wood ash before sowing. The distance between furrows is 25 cm, and within the row — 5-7 cm. Thinning to one plant per furrow is carried out after seedlings appear. Irrigation is necessary as the top layer of soil dries out, as turnips do not tolerate drying out, which can lead to bitterness of the root crops. To stimulate growth, nettle infusion can be used once a week.

Golden Ball turnip grows quickly, forming even and compact root crops that are easily harvested by the end of summer. The taste of the turnip is tender and juicy, which allows it to be used both in raw form — for salads and with sour cream, and cooked — for soups and stewed dishes. Due to its taste qualities and nutritional value, this variety is a universal and in-demand product on the table.
