LYRA

The Lyra turnip is an early-maturing root crop of the brassica family, intended for cultivation in open ground and greenhouses. This variety is characterized by a round root shape weighing from 60 to 100 grams and white, juicy flesh with an excellent taste. The plant leaves are green with a slightly bent tip and a weakly wavy edge. The period from seedling emergence to technical maturity is 55–60 days, making Lyra an attractive choice for gardeners and small-scale farms due to its rapid maturity and high yield, reaching about 3.4 kg per square meter.

For successful cultivation of Lyra turnip, it is recommended to sow seeds at a depth of 1–1.5 cm in February, followed by thinning of plants after the first leaves appear. Turnip requires regular watering to maintain the crunchiness of the roots, especially in hot weather, when the beds should be protected from overheating using lutrasil. Fertilization is carried out twice: the first time in the two-to-three leaf stage with liquid cow manure, and the second time two weeks later with a complex fertilizer without nitrogen.

The Lyra variety has high nutritional value, rich in vitamin C and carotene, making it beneficial for health, especially for smokers and people with an increased risk of oncological diseases. Pests, such as the brassica flea beetle, aphids, and turnip whitefly, can be effectively controlled using tobacco dust and ash, allowing turnip to be grown without the use of powerful chemicals.
