Tulip Willy Wong

Technical Specifications of the Triumph Tulip 'Willy Wonka'

The 'Willy Wonka' tulip is a Triumph class hybrid engineered for both commercial forcing and mid-tier landscape applications. Its genetic profile integrates the robust features of Darwin hybrids with the aesthetic precision of early tulips, resulting in high structural stability and market-ready yields.

Morphological Features and Growth Dynamics

• Bloom Structure: The flower displays high petal density with a satin texture. The conical tulip shape maintains geometric stability, resisting premature opening or petal drop under fluctuating weather conditions.
• Peduncle Strength: Being a medium-height variety, the plant features a rigid, upright stem designed to withstand wind load in open fields without requiring mechanical support.
• Flowering Cycle: Classified as a mid-season bloomer, this hybrid exhibits a controlled opening mechanism, effectively extending the decorative window by 5–7 days compared to earlier blooming varieties.

The defining technical characteristic of 'Willy Wonka' is its intense red pigmentation. The depth of color is derived from high anthocyanin concentration in the petal epidermis, ensuring visual uniformity in mass planting. From an agronomic standpoint, the variety is noted for its exceptional consistency in height, which significantly optimizes the post-harvest process by minimizing the need for grading and recalibration.

When cultivated in controlled environments, the variety responds optimally to standardized cooling protocols (typically 5°C), which are essential for producing a high-quality, sturdy peduncle. 'Willy Wonka' shows an excellent response to late February forcing while retaining stem integrity, making it a highly reliable selection for commercial cut-flower production.
