Tulip Melvin Jones

The 'Melvin Jones' tulip is a practical choice for growers focusing on late-season production and robust health. As a Single Late tulip, it demands precise nutrient management during the vegetative phase to support its tall, sturdy stems, ensuring they remain upright and commercial-grade throughout the season.

Resilience and Disease Control

The core advantage of 'Melvin Jones' is its inherent genetic durability. In field trials, this variety has demonstrated significant resistance to common pathogens that typically compromise bulb health and crop yield:

• Fusarium wilt — shows minimal bulb decay even in varied moisture levels;
• Cladosporium;
• Tomato mosaic virus and Tomato yellow leaf curl virus — critical for mixed-cropping environments.

Operational Insights

The height of this variety makes it an excellent candidate for cut flower production. The pink petals maintain their color depth without fading, which reduces waste during post-harvest handling and transport. While the variety is highly resilient, maintaining proper soil drainage is essential for optimal performance. Given its late-blooming group, it serves as a reliable end-of-season performer, provided that standard protection against wind and water stagnation is maintained.
