Tulip Alliance Francaise

Practical insights on growing Alliance Francis tulips

Selecting the Alliance Francis variety for commercial production is a move toward operational predictability. As a classic 'Triumph' tulip, it features a robust stem, which is crucial for mechanical harvesting and ensuring the plants do not lodge during windy weather or heavy spring rains. For an agronomist, this translates directly into higher pack-out rates and less waste during the harvest season.

Disease resistance and field management

The primary concern for any bulb grower is fungal pressure. Alliance Francis performs exceptionally well in this regard, showing strong natural resistance to downy mildew (peronospora), phomopsis, phoma, and sunflower rust. In high-humidity environments, this variety requires only standard preventative care rather than emergency intervention, which significantly optimizes fungicide expenditure and labor requirements.

Technical specifications

• Flowering window: Being a mid-season bloomer, it fits perfectly into supply schedules, helping growers avoid the market saturation common with early-blooming varieties.
• Plant height: The average stem height is ideal for standard bouquet production, minimizing the need for trimming and sorting.
• Color performance: The deep, vibrant red petals maintain their intensity from field to market, ensuring customer satisfaction and long shelf life.

From an operator's perspective, this variety is low-maintenance. It thrives with standard bulb depth, well-draining soil, and consistent irrigation. The variety does not suffer from stem weakening, ensuring a high, reliable yield per bed and consistent flower quality throughout the season.
