Tulip Gironde

A Double-Petaled Accent for Late-Spring Gardens

The 'Gironde' tulip is the preferred choice for landscape designers who favor massive, opulent forms and vibrant color saturation. As a member of the Late Double tulip class, this variety takes center stage just as earlier varieties begin to fade. Its defining feature is a dense, multi-petaled, bright yellow bud that mirrors the aesthetic of a classic peony.

Agronomic Potential and Resilience

Unlike many spectacular yet finicky varieties, 'Gironde' displays remarkable resistance to fungal pathogens. Genetic selection has significantly mitigated risks associated with downy mildew (peronospora), phomopsis, and phoma, making it a predictable performer for both professional growers and hobbyists. Its medium stature makes it equally suitable for mass bedding displays and commercial cut-flower production.

Who is this variety for?

• Professional Landscapers: Due to its late blooming window, this variety bridges the gap in garden color continuity.
• Florists: The dense, heavy bud and sturdy stem ensure excellent transportability and a long vase life.
• Home Gardeners: The variety requires no specialized maintenance beyond standard bulb care.

Gardeners should note that the double-petaled structure makes the blooms susceptible to heavy, prolonged rainfall; therefore, planting in areas shielded from strong, gusty winds is advised. This is a regal flower that requires its own space to fully unveil its ornamental potential.
