Tulip 4 daagses

Cultivation Practice for Early Double Tulips

Working with the 4 Daagses variety requires understanding the specific nature of low-growing double hybrids. For an agronomist, this is a highly reliable plant: the short peduncle makes it resistant to spring winds and temperature fluctuations, which is crucial for early blooming in open ground.

Operational Features and Maintenance

• Stability: Due to its low height, the variety does not require stakes or additional wind protection structures, saving labor costs during the active spring growth phase.
• Flowering: The deep red petals retain their color intensity for a long period. Like all early double tulips, this variety is sensitive to waterlogging, making a well-drained site the most critical factor for bulb survival.
• Maintenance: The crop is low-maintenance after the snow melts. Focus your efforts on fertilization during the first leaf stage; sufficient nitrogen and potassium levels are key to ensuring vivid color in the petals.

This variety is excellent for dense flowerbed plantings or container forcing. The golden rule for management: avoid soil oversaturation, as the dense double bud can trap moisture after rain, potentially leading to fungal issues at the base of the flower head.
