Tulip Aafke

Cultivation and Management of the 'Aafke' Tulip

As a classic early-blooming tulip, 'Aafke' is highly valued for its predictability in commercial production. From an operator's perspective, this variety is a low-maintenance asset. Its characteristic low height provides excellent resistance to lodging, meaning the crop stands firm even against strong spring winds. This eliminates the need for staking or extra structural support, significantly reducing labor costs.

Disease Resistance and Crop Security

The standout feature of 'Aafke' for intensive farming is its robust biological defense system. You will find that this variety requires fewer chemical interventions, making it an efficient choice for cost-conscious operations:

• Alternaria: High resistance levels mean fewer fungicide applications are necessary.
• Fusarium wilt: The root system remains resilient even under moisture-stress conditions.
• Powdery mildew: Foliage remains clean and active, ensuring the plant maintains full photosynthetic capacity until the end of the blooming cycle.

By minimizing the risk of secondary infections, 'Aafke' helps keep your production schedule on track and reduces losses.

Operational Efficiency

The soft pink petals of 'Aafke' make it a consistent performer for early-season market entry. Due to its short stature, it is perfectly suited for dense planting patterns or container production. Maintenance is straightforward; the uniformity in stem height simplifies field management, reduces the need for constant adjustments, and streamlines the harvesting process, allowing for faster processing and packing.
