Tulip Grand Rapids

The Grand Rapids Legacy: A Staple of Early Spring

The 'Grand Rapids' tulip has solidified its position in the commercial market as a reliable double early variety. Renowned for its peony-like, dense blooms, this hybrid is a preferred choice for growers who prioritize predictability and aesthetic appeal in their spring floral inventory.

Technical Performance and Disease Resistance

One of the defining characteristics that sets this cultivar apart is its significant resistance to downy mildew (Peronospora). For professional greenhouses, this trait is critical, as it ensures higher yield stability and reduces the need for aggressive fungicide applications. The plant’s low-growing habit ensures structural integrity, preventing stem breakage and providing a robust, premium-quality cut flower.

• Color profile: Deep, vibrant red, providing excellent market presence.
• Bloom timing: Mid-season variety, allowing for strategic planning during the peak spring window.
• Structural characteristics: Compact height, making it ideal for container forcing and tight-spaced cultivation.

‘Grand Rapids’ serves as a workhorse variety, bridging the gap between delicate ornamental appeal and the rigorous demands of industrial floriculture. Its consistent performance across varying environments has made it a benchmark for quality in the double tulip segment.
