Volya Kharkivska — this is a bright triticale variety developed by the Institute of Plant Growing named after V.Ya. Yuryev of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, distinguished by its universal use and high yield potential. This medium-maturing variety has a vegetation period of 87–92 days, average plant height of 95–110 cm, and is characterized by increased resistance to lodging, shattering, and germination of grains. It is also cold- and drought-tolerant, resistant to major leaf diseases, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, particularly in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia regions. The grain is light-brown, large, with an average test weight of 715–750 g/l and increased protein content (12.0–14.5 %), ensuring high-quality raw material for the bakery industry.
According to research results from 2019–2021, the Volya Kharkivska variety demonstrates stable yields at 4.07–5.22 t/ha, with potential reaching 8.5 t/ha. The 1000-grain weight ranges from 38.1–40.9 g, and the test weight of the grain is 717–753 g/l. The crude gluten content in flour reaches 27–29 %, which contributes to obtaining a bread volume of 450–500 ml from 100 g of flour. The overall bakery evaluation of the variety is 8–9 points, indicating its high technological properties, including flour strength and dough elasticity.
Volya Kharkivska has valuable biological traits, making it suitable for organic farming and cultivation of ecologically clean products. The variety can efficiently absorb nutrients from the soil, has enhanced resistance to spring frosts, drought, pests, and diseases, particularly it is not affected by hard and powdery mildew, eliminating the need for seed treatment before sowing. Triticale Volya Kharkivska is effectively used as a cover crop for winter crop sowing and replanting, and it allows growing bread grains in regions where problems arise with soft winter wheat crops.
