PSKOVSKAYA MESTNAYA – an erect bush with a dense stem system reaching 130–150 cm in height and thick stems, ensuring high resistance to mechanical damage during mowing. The leaves are long and medium-width, while the inflorescences consist of loose, two-sided, pinnate panicles of light brown color. The root system is well developed, which helps anchor the plant in dryland soils and increases drought resistance.
The variety is characterized by early maturity: from the start of spring vegetation to the first cutting – 50–55 days, and from the first to the second – 90–95 days. This allows for two stages of hay cutting in one season and yields three to four regrowths in summer when used as pasture. Yield on dryland meadows in the Pskov region is approximately 4.25 t/ha with mixed grass mixtures (with hairless brome and meadow clover). The hay contains 14.3% protein and 33% fiber, while the green mass is rich in carotene.
PSKOVSKAYA MESTNAYA is intended for mowing and pasture use on dryland meadows. Thanks to its high winter hardiness and intensive growth, it is a valuable fodder material in agriculture, providing a stable diet for livestock even under unfavorable climatic conditions.
