Description
The mint variety "Zagrava" is the result of interspecific hybridization and experimental polyploidy, which enabled obtaining a high-yielding form with stable yield in both annual and biennial culture. According to data from competitive variety trials, the average yield of green mass is 235.2 t/ha, dry raw material – 24.4 t/ha, and the oil content reaches 3.43%. Menthol content in the oil ranges from 78–80%, making the variety one of the best for essential oil production; total oil yield is about 79.6 kg/ha.
"Zagrava" is characterized by late maturity and excellent winter hardiness. The plant is practically resistant to rust and tolerates frosts well, so it can be grown both in open ground and at home with sufficient lighting. The height of the adult bush is about 60 cm in open ground (45 cm in a pot), which makes the plant convenient for use in various landscape compositions.
The aroma of the mint variety is characterized by a complex combination of citrus notes and woody undertones, while a light lavender scent is present. Thanks to this, "Zagrava" is widely used in cooking as a spice, as well as for preparing beverages and infusions. High menthol content makes it popular among essential oil producers, where it is valued for the purity of aroma and extraction efficiency.
