Developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the NAAS, the «Kiy» hybrid is engineered for intensive farming systems, where predictability and disease resistance are paramount. As a simple hybrid, its genetic architecture is specifically optimized for high-performance cultivation in challenging phytosanitary conditions.

Biological Defense and Resilience

The core advantage of the «Kiy» hybrid lies in its comprehensive resistance to pathogens that threaten yield stability. The plant exhibits high natural immunity against:

• Rot complex: robust resistance to Sclerotinia, white rot, and gray rot, which is crucial for maintaining integrity during high-humidity ripening phases.
• Fungal infections: strong defensive traits against Phomopsis and Peronospora, protecting the photosynthetic apparatus throughout the season.
• Broomrape (Orobanche cumana): genetically built resistance to parasitic broomrape races, allowing for cultivation on infested soils.

Agronomic Performance and Management

With a maturity period of 100–110 days, this hybrid is designed to escape late-season heat stress. A plant height of 140–150 cm offers an optimal balance between biomass production and mechanical harvest efficiency. The convex shape of the large head, combined with small-sized seeds and an oil content of 45–50%, makes «Kiy» an attractive asset for both farmers and crushers.

A critical technical component of this hybrid is its compatibility with the «EURO-LIGHTNING» herbicide system. This integration allows producers to manage broadleaf and grass weeds in-season without mechanical cultivation. By utilizing the Clearfield production system, growers can effectively manage weed pressure while preserving soil moisture and nutrients, ensuring that the hybrid reaches its full physiological potential.
