Originator:
Institute of Plant Breeding named after V. Ya. Yur'ev. Registered in the Ukrainian Plant Variety Register since 2000 for the steppe zone. Trial characteristics: Variety — Chernyanka small-seeded. Plant height 120-150 cm. Heads large, slightly convex, diameter 19-23 cm. Husk shedding 21.9%. 1000 seed mass 58-61 g. Biological features: Hybrid belongs to the early-maturing group, vegetation period duration 100-105 days. Characterized by uniform flowering and ripening, resistant to lodging, high drought tolerance, low shattering. Genetically resistant to wolf and false powdery mildew, resistant to white and gray rot. Hybrid for oilseed use. Yield and quality: In the competitive trials of the Institute in 1994-1996, seed yield was 26.8 centners per hectare, oil yield 1230 kg per hectare, exceeding the Kharkiv-49 standard by 4 centners per hectare and 197 kg per hectare. Maximum hybrid yield, as certified by the State Commission for Variety Testing, was 48.4 centners per hectare. In 1997, on the variety trials in the Kharkiv region, Kii showed high yield among Group 1 hybrids, exceeding the standard by 2.8 centners per hectare. In 2000, individual farms in the Balakliya district of the Kharkiv region, such as 'Rossiya', 'Mayak', 'Gusarovskoe', achieved seed yields from 27.3 to 33.5 centners per hectare. Oil content in seeds 49.7-51.2%. Mother line yield 8.1-13.2 centners per hectare. Proportion of marketable seeds 65%. For full pollination of the maternal line, paternal lines must be sown in two successive crops on hybridization plots. The maternal line should be sown only after the appearance of the first true leaves in the parental line.
