Biological defense: resistance to rot

The hybrid’s engineering design focuses on aggressive defense against a complex of rots. The genetic architecture of LG 5412 ensures high resistance to key threats:

• Root and stem infections: effective protection against white rot (root) and phomopsis allows the hybrid to maintain vascular integrity until harvest.
• Head pathogens: due to the architecture of the inflorescence and genetic immunity, the plant minimizes damage from phoma and white rot of the head, which is critical during wet end-of-season conditions.
• Specific resistance: built-in resistance to downy mildew (peronospora) provides control during early development stages when fungicide application is least effective.

Morphological characteristics and yield

With an average plant height of 140–150 cm, the hybrid develops a large, convex head, ensuring optimal seed filling. The physiology of LG 5412 is tuned for efficient conversion of solar energy into oil: the oil content in seeds is consistently maintained in the 45–50% range. This oil content, combined with high grain weight, makes this hybrid a profitable solution for operations focused on high-quality commercial yields with excellent oil output.

The practical application of LG 5412 is justified in fields with high infection pressure, where using less protected hybrids often leads to mass lodging or head rotting. It is a balanced “workhorse” for those who prioritize yield stability over short-term records.
