Sunflower Calibre 2 is a high-oil hybrid developed by the American seed company Nuseed for the Clearfield production system, which provides effective weed control, particularly against ragweed. This hybrid belongs to the early linoleic varieties with a vegetation period from 98 to 105 days and has a high yield potential up to 52 centners per hectare. The seeds contain 47 to 50% oil rich in oleic acid, making it valuable for producing high-quality vegetable oil.
Calibre 2 plants are characterized by strong stems resistant to lodging at the base and medium-sized, slightly lobed leaves. Plant height varies from 155 to 170 cm depending on soil conditions and nutrient supply. The sunflower heads are of medium size and well-filled with seeds. During flowering, the hybrid attracts beneficial insects, especially honeybees, which contributes to good pollination and phytosanitary condition until the end of the vegetation period. The recommended planting density is 50–60 thousand plants per hectare, ensuring optimal growth and resistance to stress and diseases.
In addition, sunflower seeds of Calibre 2 are suitable for growing microgreens, which are a rich source of vitamins A, C, E, K, B6, and folic acid, as well as beneficial omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Microgreens are easy to grow on a sunny windowsill, low in calories, and contain significant amounts of protein and carbohydrates, making them a healthy and nutritious food product for balanced nutrition.
