PITON

Piton is a mid-season diploid hybrid of sugar beet of E-type, possessing high yield potential and stable profitability. The vegetation period is from 140 to 160 days, which allows the hybrid to be successfully grown in the regions of Polesie and Forest-steppe. The root is conical, immersed in the soil for 2/3–90%, has a white-green color with grooves and weighs from 300 to 900 grams. The flesh is white and juicy, with a sugar content of 17-18%, which ensures high quality of raw materials for processing.

The hybrid is distinguished by good resistance to major sugar beet diseases, such as rhizomania and powdery mildew, which contributes to maintaining plant health and a stable harvest. Piton is characterized by cold hardiness and at the same time drought tolerance, however it requires sufficient moisture during critical periods – seed germination, as well as formation and growth of root crops. Optimal growing conditions include soils with acidity pH 6.5-7.5 and liming of the soil to improve structure and fertility.

For sowing, a depth of 6-7 cm is recommended when the soil temperature reaches 6-8 °C. The sowing rate is 2-10 kg of seeds per hectare, with a stand density before harvesting of 85-100 thousand plants per hectare. By complying with agricultural requirements, the hybrid yield can reach more than 100 tons per hectare, which makes Piton one of the best options for obtaining high yields of sugar beet with high-quality and healthy root crop.
