Sugar beet Novella

Danish breeding excellence for sugar beet production

The «Novela» sugar beet hybrid by Maribo Seed is a definitive example of the NZ (normal-sugar) type, which has long been a benchmark for producers seeking a robust balance between yield and raw material quality. In the professional seed market, Maribo Seed is synonymous with stress-resistant genetics, and «Novela» stands out as one of the most predictable and reliable tools for modern agronomy.

Superior disease resistance profile

The primary advantage of this hybrid is its comprehensive immunity profile. In intensive farming environments, where pathogens often overcome standard protection, «Novela» exhibits strong natural resistance to a wide range of diseases, allowing farmers to reduce the number of fungicide applications significantly:

• High tolerance to Cercospora leaf spot;
• Strong resistance to powdery mildew;
• Effective defense against seedling blight (Aphanomyces/Pythium);
• Proven resilience against various root rots.

The plant’s ability to withstand root decay is particularly noteworthy, providing peace of mind during late-season growth and harvest periods.

Production specs and performance

«Novela» produces medium-sized roots, which is an ideal format for uniform stand establishment and efficient mechanical harvesting. The sugar content consistently remains within the 17-18% range, making it a high-demand product for sugar processing plants. This hybrid is the logical choice for agronomists who prioritize consistent, year-over-year performance over experimental alternatives.
